Norwich T’ai Chi & Kung-fu - Traditional Chinese Arts
Tai Chi, as most people call it, or T’ai Chi Ch’uan as it should be, is a highly developed Exercise Art dating back to the 13th Century. There are ‘Five Main Family Styles’ in China, but many, many more styles both in China and around the world. A famous Chinese scholar said “If you want to know the real essence of Taijiquan then you should study Chen, then Yang, then Wu styles”. This is because each of those styles has stamped it’s own “family mark” on their Forms, implying that they may deviate from the original transmitted methods as originally developed by Ch’eung Samfeng in the 13th Century. However, the T’ien Ti Tao “Well-spring Style” harks back to what might have been the original principles: the 13 methods and 36 Forms of Ch’eung. It uses the obligatory Compass Pattern, Snake Style and Pa Kua Ch’uan methods as laid down by the Master al those centuries ago. As is also traditional, we teach the full applications of the Form - each movement has a self-defence application based upon the original concepts - as well as all the traditional extras, like “Adhering Hands”, Taiji Dao (Broadsword), Taijigun (Taiji Staff) and so on.
An old Chinese saying goes: “If you are not learning these aspects, then you are not learning T’ai Chi Ch’uan!”
There are no short cuts in what we do or teach. However, for those who learn properly there are many personal rewards. Plus we offer full National and Internationally acceptable qualifications, all the way up to Master Level.
